Starting A Painting

These are grayscale sketches that i do before i go into color when doing a painting. These quick/small sketches help me figure out composition, lighting and values. This is the step after sketching with lines. I will try to get better at showing more of my process :)

  2. Quite insightful. As a new illustrator, I appreciate seeing the process you go through. Are all these different layouts for the same idea, or is this meant to tell a story? I looks quite similar to the color scripts animators use to plot out their work.

    1. These are all for the same idea. The finished painting is "yack man" its a little further down in my blog. Yes, thank you, i look at a lot of concept art and color scrips that are done for animated movies.
